URE – Undergraduate Research Experience: for Cornell undergraduates
The CIHMID Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) is a program to provide research opportunities to Cornell undergraduate students interested in host-microbe interactions. Applicants to the program may request to work in particular host labs at the time of application, or URE program administrators can help match applicants to host labs based on applicant research interest. The URE program has both academic-year and summer research options, and includes structured mentoring and professional development in a cohesive and interactive undergraduate research community.

Microbial Friends and Foes (MFF) is an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). The MFF program provides a fully-funded, 10-week immersive summer research experience for non-Cornell undergraduate students. MFF students are recruited nationally, emphasizing participation by students whose backgrounds are underrepresented in science or who may not otherwise have access to robust research opportunities. MFF projects can be hosted in varied CIHMID labs, and can span all aspects of host-microbe biology from cell biology and molecular genetic interactions to ecology, evolution and epidemiology.
