Virology Journal Club

For the FINAL MEETING OF THE SEMESTER Consuelo Correa will discuss four short and easy to read papers about women and productivity in science and in virology – this is a very important topic that is related to Covid19 and the parents of small children, their productivity in science, and their career trajectories:

  1. The changing career trajectories of new parents in STEM | PNAS
  2. Academic Productivity Differences by Gender and Child Age in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine Faculty During the COVID-19 Pandemic (liebertpub.com)
  3. Women’s ability to produce urgent research compromised by pandemic, data suggest | News | Nature Index
  4. Historical comparison of gender inequality in scientific careers across countries and disciplines | PNAS
The session is on Thursdays from 9:00 to ~10:00. Information is sent via the Cornell Virology email list (to join see here). We discuss papers that have been published recently, historical papers, or people can present research findings or new methods. Feel free to be creative. For more information contact Colin Parrish (crp3) or Sarah Saddoris (ss3943). Attendance and participation are open to anyone who is interested.
